the main at 221 main

san francisco, ca

In a competitive office market like Downtown San Francisco, the team behind 221 Main knew they had to do something different. Alongside Revel, they set out to create amenities that would stand out—not by going bigger, but by going bolder. Instead of placing gyms in windowless basements or hiding conference rooms in underused corners, they took a bold step: converting prime street-level retail space into a vibrant, light-filled tenant experience. Revel helped guide the client through the complex process of securing a change of use with the city, paving the way for a highly activated space with soaring ceilings and direct street presence.

The resulting design splits the space evenly between a high-energy fitness center complete with yoga studio, showers, lockers, and a two-story rock climbing wall with a retractable Nano-Wall—and a hospitality-inspired lounge featuring a bar, pool table, poker table, and flexible seating.
