History is in the details. Relocating historic teller windows to differentiate between public and private spaces, re-purposed safe vaults transformed into meeting rooms, and preserving original architectural detailing, all create a vibrant and functional design for this LEED Platinum workplace.
Teaming with our client, Revel transformed this historic building into a modern workplace, while preserving the grandeur of its 20th-century roots as the town’s financial center and giving it a sustainable twist with LEED Platinum certification. The design team took great lengths to preserve classical trim, columns, original chandeliers, original map drawers, and even the commercial transaction counter remained as part of the final design.
To accommodate its new functions and open the space, the team created a double-height volume at the entrance, which supports a new mezzanine – adding much needed square footage to the building. Additionally, abundant natural light streams in from perforations in the new roof and a central skylight, providing natural daylight for the offices and a new grand staircase.
In marrying traditional design with modern features and sustainability, Farmer’s Bank illustrates that good design transcends labels or single-track approaches. The creativity behind this building’s rehabilitation opens doors for historic preservation, sustainability, and the meeting of the two in the most unlikely places.
Since completion, the project has received a Merit Award with AIA Nevada, LEED Project of the Year with USGBC Nevada, and Summit Awards 2014 Best Redevelopment/Re-Use Project .
