We put the finishing touches on our chair redesign last week and it became the favorite seat of a generous donor! Revel took part in the first-ever Chairity event, organized by Two Furnish, and benefitting Project Color Corps. If you’ve never heard of either of those groups, check them out. They’re awesome!
Two Furnish rounded up 19 chairs from places like Goodwill and Salvation Army–chairs that needed a little love but still had a lot to offer. They sent them around to local architecture and design firms with the directive to make them fabulous again so they can be auctioned off.
The upholstery workshop Kay Chesterfied in Oakland did any needed reupholstering, and the rest was up to us designers. In addition to crazy (or sane) upholstery, we can paint, stain, refinish, embellish, and bedazzle our chairs. Basically, our imaginations are the only limit. The only thing we felt strongly about for our chair is that someone should be able to sit comfortably in it, rather than having it turn into a sculpture.
We have had a blast redesigning our chair. We’ve taken it from a Goodwill castoff to a lovely perch for someone’s posterior.
Project Color Corps does amazing work creating change by painting inner city neighborhoods with color and pattern that impart positive messages of optimism and hope. Check out their website and what they’ve done to brighten the lives of several urban schools.
The Chairity event took place on October 15th in San Francisco.
